Cloudflare AI Security for Apps Goes GA: First Major CDN-Level Firewall for AI Agents with IBM Partnership and Free AI Discovery

Cloudflare has made AI Security for Apps generally available, creating the first major CDN-level security product specifically designed to protect AI-powered applications and autonomous agents from prompt injection, sensitive data disclosure, and unbounded consumption attacks.

What AI Security for Apps Does: The product sits as a reverse proxy in front of AI-powered applications regardless of model or hosting provider, providing three core capabilities:

1. Discovery (now free for all plans): Automatically discovers AI-powered apps across web properties, giving security teams visibility into shadow AI deployments. This is now available on Free, Pro, and Business plans — not just Enterprise.

2. Detection: Identifies malicious or off-policy behavior targeting AI endpoints, including prompt injection attempts, sensitive information disclosure attempts, and resource consumption attacks cataloged in the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications.

3. Mitigation: Uses the familiar WAF rule builder to block or rate-limit threats, with new capabilities like detection for custom topics.

Why This Matters for Agent Security: Cloudflare explicitly addresses the escalation risk when AI applications gain tool-calling capabilities: when an AI agent can process refunds, modify accounts, provide discounts, or access customer data, a single malicious prompt becomes an immediate security incident rather than just a conversational anomaly.
